USS Bauer DE 1025 a destroyer escort with the Yorktown carrier group. Managed the ships store and also processed payroll with a rating of Disbursing Clerk. We did a tour of the Pacific stopping in Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines known as a Wespac tour. Even back then I was famous for my little advertising signs I put up on the items for sale in the tiny store on board. My battle station was in the forward 3 inch gun turret as a loader. We only had the one gun barely big enough to do any damage to anything. |
